Even comparing to audio, visual and kinesthetic channels together visual contact still remains the most effective. During the twentieth century a system of signs emerges due to the fact that visual communication becomes widespread for the international audience. Sharing universal language of communication that is understandable in all countries of the world first becomes reality during Olympic events. For every Olympic event starting from 1936 Olympics in Berlin and until now, a full set of summer and winter sport pictograms is designed. These are intuitively understood symbols for participants and fans from over 50 countries. At the same time, in addition to sport pictograms, a team of AIGA designers produced symbol-based wayfinding system of passenger/pedestrian signs for universal communication need, particularly for all forms of public transport. Subsequently, this AIGA/DOT Symbol Sign System is already considered as a classic of modern design. Another complete set of safety and public information signs to help world citizens is published by the International Organization for Standardization.
